Description

MS62 1873-S Closed 3 Double Eagle

1873-S $20 Closed 3 MS62 PCGS. CAC. Most 1873-S twenties are the Closed 3 variety since Open 3 dies were made later and had to journey cross-country from Philadelphia to San Francisco. However, Type Two double eagles are known for the scarcity in Mint State. The present lustrous honey-gold example displays fewer than the expected number of marks for the MS62 level. Population: 21 in 62, 3 finer (3/12).(Registry values: N4719)

Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 26AK, PCGS# 8969, Greysheet# 9918)

Weight: 33.44 grams

Metal: 90% Gold, 10% Copper
