Description
1873-S Double Eagle, MS62
CAC-Approved Closed 3 Coin
1873-S $20 Closed 3 MS62 PCGS. CAC. Most Uncirculated 1873-S
double eagles have the Closed 3 date logotype, as seen here.
Nonetheless, even Closed 3 coins are scarce in MS62, and such
pieces are rare with CAC endorsement. PCGS and NGC combined list
only seven finer submissions (11/22), none of which are approved by
CAC at this time. The present coin is visually luminous, showing
minimal abrasions throughout frosty orange-gold surfaces. The
strike is sharp, and eye appeal exceeds expectations for the grade.
This piece is among the most attractive 1873-S double eagles that
we have seen in recent memory. Population: 71 in 62 (10 in 62+), 3
finer. CAC: 21 in 62, 0 finer (10/22).(Registry values: N4719)Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 26AK, PCGS# 8969, Greysheet# 9918)
Weight: 33.44 grams
Metal: 90% Gold, 10% Copper
