Description
Flashy 1874-CC Twenty, AU58
Ex: Bass
1874-CC $20 AU58 NGC. Ex: Bass. The 1874-CC double eagles
are an issue that is fairly available in AU, but much more elusive
once the Mint State levels are reached. This is a piece that would
have traded as "Uncirculated" before the advent of certified
grading, as just the merest whisper of rub--visible primarily as a
slight color change on Liberty's cheek--keeps this coin from an
MS62 or MS63 grade. The coloration is a typical (but desirable)
apricot-gold, with nearly all of the luster remaining, bright
semiprooflike fields, and a strong strike. NGC has certified only
17 pieces finer (9/09).Ex: Bass II (Bowers and Merena, 10/1999), lot 1831.(Registry values: N1793)
