Description

1874-CC Double Eagle, AU58
Few Coins Finer

1874-CC $20 AU58 PCGS. Winter 2-A. The 1874-CC represents an available date in the context of Carson City double eagles, although most coins are in XF or low AU grades. The mintage of more than 115,000 pieces supplied local banking needs but also served as trade coins for international payments. None were immediately preserved for numismatic purposes, as it would be two more decades before collectors began paying attention to mintmarks on coins. This near-Mint coin is thoroughly lustrous with original olive-gold patina and flecks of russet. A well-struck piece with minimal wear on each side.(Registry values: N1793)
