Pleasing 1875-CC Twenty Dollar, MS62

1875-CC $20 MS62 NGC. The Carson City Mint began producing double eagles in its first year of production, 1870. Of all the twenties produced by that mint the 1875 is considered the most common. But, as Garrett and Guth (2006) caution, "As with all With Motto double eagles, the availability drops drastically as the grade increases. The 1875-CC double eagle becomes scarce in MS-62 and MS-63." This coin is generally well struck, though there is softness in the details of Liberty's hair. Vivid luster reflects from red-gold surfaces, and there are no distracting spots or abrasions. This is a well-preserved and scarce example of Carson City gold; NGC has graded only 27 coins finer (8/08).(Registry values: N4719)
