Description
Condition Rarity MS63 1875-S Twenty
1875-S $20 MS63 NGC. At the same time the San Francisco Mint was hard at work producing silver coins for export, most notably the infamous "Trade" dollars of the 1870s, it was also churning out impressive numbers of large gold coins for the same purpose. Despite a prodigious mintage of more than 1.2 million pieces for the 1875-S double eagle issue, the date is a condition rarity at the MS63 level. Though this Select coin shows significant striking softness, most notably at the mushy first star on the obverse, the yellow-orange luster is swirling and delightful. A small violet copper spot near 1 o'clock on the obverse rim attests to the coin's originality.(Registry values: N4719)Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 26AU, PCGS# 8975, Greysheet# 9923)
