Description
1875-S Double Eagle, MS63
Rare This Well-Preserved
1875-S $20 MS63 PCGS. The San Francisco Mint produced more
than 1.2 million double eagles in 1875, a rather significant number
for the period. Many pieces found their way into overseas shipments
and have made their way back in recent decades. As a result, AU and
Mint State survivors are plentiful in grades through MS61. In MS62
the population declines significantly, and Select or finer pieces
are decidedly rare. This frosty representative shows vibrant golden
luster and sharp design elements, particularly on the reverse.
Grade-limiting abrasions are primarily restricted to faint grazes
in the luster, making this piece a high-end coin for the grade. A
shallow planchet void near star 3 is mint-made and not immediately
obvious. Population: 13 in 63 (1 in 63+), 6 finer (8/14).(Registry values: N4719)Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 26AU, PCGS# 8975, Greysheet# 9923)
