Description

1875-S Twenty Dollar, Vibrant MS63
Popular Type Two Issue, Seldom Seen Finer

1875-S $20 MS63 PCGS. The San Francisco Mint produced more than 1.2 million double eagles in 1875, a significant number for the period. Many pieces found their way into overseas shipments and have made their way back to native shores in recent decades. As a result, AU and Mint State survivors are plentiful in grades through MS61. In MS62 the population declines significantly, and Select or finer pieces are decidedly rare. This frosty representative shows vibrant golden luster and sharp design elements, particularly on the reverse. Grade-limiting abrasions are primarily restricted to faint grazes in the luster, making this piece high-end for the grade. A shallow planchet void near star 3 is mint-made and inconsequential. Population: 16 in 63 (2 in 63+), 6 finer (3/15).(Registry values: N4719)
