Description

1876-CC Twenty Dollar, MS61
Reflective Fields, Strong for the Grade

1876-CC $20 MS61 NGC. Winter 2-A. The high 138,441-piece mintage almost puts the 1876-CC on a par with the 1875-CC as the most available Carson City twenties in the series. At least 11 die pairs produced the 1876-CC issue. A sizeable die lump over the R in LIBERTY is one of the diagnostics for the variety. The fields are mostly prooflike on this coin that was likely struck from fresh dies, leaving the reflective areas vulnerable to abrasions, especially in the left obverse field. Nevertheless, marks are less than expected for the grade. Grayish bag grime exists on some high points and a thin grease streak runs from nose to chin. Attractive olive-gold color confirms the above average visual appeal of this Mint State 1876-CC twenty.(Registry values: N4719)
