Description
1876-CC Double Eagle, MS61
Original Mint Luster, CAC Approved
1876-CC $20 MS61 PCGS. CAC. Variety 3-A. Several die markers
differentiate Obverse 3 from the seven other known 1876 obverses
used at Carson City for this denomination, including date placement
and die lines in Liberty's hair curls. The reverse for this die
pair is one of four known for the issue, and it was the mostly
widely used on the different die pairings. A squiggly die crack
through the denomination is a reliable identifier. As a date, the 1876-CC is a plentiful Carson City type coin, although it becomes conditionally scarce in grades above the current MS61 piece. CAC-approved examples are similarly scarce. This example shows frosty honey-gold mint luster and a bold strike, with minor abrasions that limit the grade. Eye appeal exceeds expectations. CAC: 36 in 61, 9 finer (10/24).(Registry values: N4719)
