Description
1877 Double Eagle, MS62+
Inaugural Type Three Coin
1877 $20 MS62+ PCGS. Uncirculated examples of the inaugural
Type Three double eagle are apt to be found in MS61 or MS62.
Plus-designated coins of similar quality are rare. The 1877
commands a considerable premium in MS63 and is virtually unknown in
MS64. This warm, sun-gold twenty offers glistening frost and few
major abrasions for the grade. Small, scattered marks are expected,
and the impression is uniformly bold. PCGS shows 18 submissions
graded finer (1/17).(Registry values: N2998)Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 26AY, PCGS# 8982, Greysheet# 9815)
