Description

1877 Double Eagle, MS63
Important Condition Rarity

1877 $20 MS63 PCGS. The 1877 double eagle represents the first year of the revised Liberty design with the Type Three reverse that has the denomination spelled in full as TWENTY DOLLARS. The previous Type One and Type Two coins has the abbreviated denomination of TWENTY D. The revised design was issued through the end of the series in 1907. In addition to its first-year type status, the 1877 is an important condition rarity that is seldom seen in grades better than MS62 with just one numerically finer MS64 example at PCGS and one other MS64 at NGC. Hints of rose appear on the sun-gold surfaces of this impressive Select Mint State piece that exhibits brilliant and frosty luster and minuscule marks that prevent finest-known status. Population: 23 in 63 (1 in 63+), 1 finer (2/24).(Registry values: N2998)

Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 26AY, PCGS# 8982, Greysheet# 9815)
