Description

1877-CC Twenty, AU58
Impressive Eye Appeal

1877-CC $20 AU58 PCGS. Variety 2-C. The luster is virtually complete, although inspection beneath a glass confirms slight friction on the final letters in LIBERTY. Marks are unexpectedly minor, and the eye appeal is impressive, a byproduct of its brief stay in circulation. The mintage is less than half that of the 1874 to 1876 Carson City emissions. Much of the bullion mined near Carson City was shipped to San Francisco for coinage for depositors "to draw bank checks on their deposits rather than be faced with the transport of excess coinage" per Douglas Winter. Population: 52 in 58, 31 finer (8/15).
