Description

Well-Struck 1877-S Double Eagle, MS62

1877-S $20 MS62 PCGS. CAC. Much of the generous mintage of 1.7 million 1877-S twenty dollar gold pieces was shipped to Europe and South America and became heavily abraded by the time it returned to the States. Most Mint State examples are thus in the MS60 to MS62 range, above which the issue is rare. Lustrous peach-gold surfaces display reddish-rose overtones and exhibit sharply struck devices. Light scuffs and marks determine the grade. PCGS has seen only 28 finer (4/12)(Registry values: N2998)
