Description

1877-S Twenty Dollar, MS63
Ex: Harry W. Bass, Jr.

1877-S $20 MS63 PCGS. Ex: Harry W. Bass, Jr. Collection. This well-struck S-mint twenty features bright honey-gold color and shimmering luster. Only a small bagmark on Liberty's cheekbone prevents a higher assessment by PCGS. The 1877-S claims a mintage in excess of 1.7 million pieces and is readily available in Choice AU through lower Uncirculated grades. Select Mint State representatives are scarce, and anything finer would qualify for the Condition Census. Population: 32 in 63, 7 finer (11/19).
Ex: Alto Collection (Stack's, 12/1970), lot 442; Harry W. Bass, Jr. Collection, Part III (Bowers and Merena, 5/2000), lot 869; Davis Collection / Long Beach Signature (Heritage, 9/2003), lot 8346.
