Scarce Issue in High Grades

1878-S $20 MS62 NGC. CAC. The 1878-S Liberty Head double eagle was produced in large quantities, but the issue was widely circulated and Mint State coins are seldom encountered today. Currently, only 15 coins have been certified in grades above MS62 by NGC and PCGS combined (8/10). The present coin displays bright mint luster, with pleasing greenish-gold surfaces, and sharply rendered devices.(Registry values: N4719)
