Description
1878-S Liberty Head Double Eagle, MS62
Scarce Issue in Mint State
1878-S $20 MS62 PCGS. The 1878-S Liberty Head double eagle
is a high-mintage issue that has a low survival rate in high grade.
The present coin is a pleasing orange-gold example, with lustrous
surfaces and sharply detailed design elements. A scattering of
minor abrasions on both sides is consistent with the grade. The
issue is definitely scarce in MS62, and only 15 coins have been
certified in higher numeric grades by PCGS and NGC combined
(8/10).(Registry values: N4719)Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 26B5, PCGS# 8987, GSID# 9929)
