1879-CC $20 AU55 PCGS. CAC. Only 10,708 coins of the 1879-CC twenty were produced, the lowest amount since the 3,789 double eagles made at Carson City during 1870, its first year of operation. Today the average certified survivor of the 1879-CC production is only Choice XF or thereabouts.
The present specimen has commendable orange-gold coloration, with much eye appeal and considerable luster remaining despite five points of wear. The moderately abraded surfaces are typical of a CC-mint issue of this rough-and-tumble decade in the Old West, when the few gold coins available saw active duty in the channels of commerce.
