Description
1879-CC Liberty Twenty, AU55
Elusive Branch Mint Issue
1879-CC $20 AU55 PCGS. Variety 1-A. The 1879-CC Liberty
double eagle claims an impressively low mintage of 10,708 pieces,
making it a challenging issue in all grades today. The 1879-CC was
even more elusive before a group of XF-AU specimens surfaced in the
early 1990s to augment the small supply available to collectors.
Examples in AU55 condition are still very scarce today. The present coin is an impressive Choice AU specimen, with a bold strike and just a touch of high-point wear on the design elements. The lightly abraded orange-gold surfaces retain much of their original mint luster and overall eye appeal is quite strong. Population: 26 in 55 (1 in 55+), 28 finer (11/21).
