1879-CC $20 AU58 NGC. Variety 1-A. The only known variety. The 1879-CC mintage of 10,708 pieces is one of the lowest of any Carson City double eagle. That said, this issue can be located in Very Fine and Extremely Fine grades with relatively little difficulty. About Uncirculated specimens become much more challenging and mint condition examples are rare, only 17 of which have been graded by NGC and PCGS.

The honey-gold surfaces of this near-Mint coin display slight high-point wear and retain traces of luster in the recessed areas. The design elements are well-defined, a characteristic of this date. A few marks are scattered over both sides, as typically seen on the issue, the most prominent being two shallow scrapes below the IC of AMERICA. Census: 57 in 58, 9 finer (6/14).
