Description
1879-CC Double Eagle, AU58
Conditionally Elusive
1879-CC $20 AU58 NGC. Variety 1-A. Only one documented die
pair was used to produce 10,708 double eagles at the Carson City
Mint in 1879. NGC has only certified 10 Mint State 1879-CC double
eagles, likely including resubmissions, making this near-Mint
example an excellent value, offering an attractive coin at a
presumably reasonable price. This piece is typical of 1879-CC
twenties, with a sharp strike, nearly complete mint frost, and
minimal marks of no consequence. Although below the Mint State
grade level, this piece probably ranks among the dozen finest
surviving examples. Census: 51 in 58, 10 finer (9/17).(Registry values: N2998)Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 26B7, PCGS# 8989, Greysheet# 9930)
Weight: 33.44 grams
Metal: 90% Gold, 10% Copper
