1879-CC Double Eagle, AU Details
Elusive Carson City Twenty

1879-CC $20 -- Cleaned -- NGC Details. AU. Winter 1-A. A single variety struck the entire 10,708-piece mintage. The Specie Redemption Act went into effect in January 1879, and while the government expected, but there was no hurry for the public to redeem paper money for gold. A few 1879-CC coins circulated as usual in local commerce, but they were mostly used as banking reserves or exported. This lightly circulated example was once cleaned, with slightly subdued surfaces but few marks or abrasions. Sharply defined motifs remain intact.
