Description
1879-CC Double Eagle, MS60
Low Mintage, Rare in Mint State
1879-CC $20 MS60 NGC. Variety 1-A. This is the only die pair
known, featuring a lump below the 9 in the date and the right edge
of the second C in the mintmark aligned with the left edge of the D
in DOLLARS. Only 10,708 1879-CC double eagles were struck, and most
survivors can be found in XF-AU grades. Of the total estimated
population of 300-350 coins, it is almost certain that fewer than a
dozen exist in Mint State. This coin is lustrous and unworn with
crisp detail on the portrait, stars, and eagle. The open fields are
slightly subdued, and small abrasions are minimal. Census: 5 in 60,
6 finer (9/19).(Registry values: N7079)Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 26B7, PCGS# 8989, Greysheet# 9930)
Weight: 33.44 grams
Metal: 90% Gold, 10% Copper
