Low Mintage 1879-CC Double Eagle XF45

1879-CC $20 XF45 NGC. Semi-prooflike luster brightens the stars and legends of this nicely struck and moderately worn example. Carson City double eagle production dwindled from 138,441 pieces in 1876 to 10,708 pieces in 1879. None were struck in 1880 and 1881. Comstock lode bullion was either diminishing, or shipped directly to San Francisco for coining.(Registry values: N1793)
