Description

Pleasing 1879-S Double Eagle, MS61

1879-S $20 MS61 NGC. According to Garrett and Guth (2006), while many 1879-S twenties have returned to the United States, they remain scarce in Mint State. In grades higher than MS62 the 1879-S is virtually unobtainable. Charming butter-yellow patina embraces the surfaces, with lovely rose accents in the fields. Powerfully struck with impressive luster. NGC has certified just 30 coins finer (8/08).(Registry values: N1793)
