Description

1879-S Liberty Head Double Eagle, MS61
Attractive Color and Luster

1879-S $20 MS61 PCGS. From a generous mintage of 1.2 million pieces, the 1879-S double eagle was a widely circulated issue, and examples in Mint State condition are scarce today. The present coin is sharply struck, with fine detail present on Liberty's hair and the star centers. The surfaces are a pleasing orange-gold color, with hints of rose. Bright mint luster offsets the usual collection of minor marks and abrasions on both sides.(Registry values: N1793)
