Description
1879-S Double Eagle, MS62
None Finer at NGC
1879-S $20 MS62 NGC. CAC. A small quantity of 1879-S double
eagles was discovered in the Saddle Ridge Hoard, but none of the
coins graded better than AU58 at PCGS. This Uncirculated NGC coin
is as conditionally scarce now as it was prior to the Saddle Ridge
find. None are finer at NGC, and higher-grade PCGS pieces are
extremely rare. This CAC-endorsed coin is razor-sharp and displays
frosty, radiant yellow-gold luster. Scattered abrasions limit the
grade, but none are singularly obtrusive. Census: 43 in 62, 0
finer; CAC: 5 in 62, 0 finer. A pair of MS62 Prooflike coins are
also listed at NGC (3/16).(Registry values: N4719)Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 26B9, PCGS# 8991, Greysheet# 9932)
Weight: 33.44 grams
