Description
Fantastic 1879-S Twenty Dollar, MS62
1879-S $20 MS62 PCGS. While the 1879-S double eagle is readily accessible in the lowest reaches of Mint State, thanks to a million-plus mintage, coins like this MS62 example are genuinely elusive, and there are only four higher-graded pieces in the PCGS Population Report (5/10). While this coin shows numerous light to moderate marks across the obverse, the reverse is comparatively clean. Rich yellow-gold luster exhibits strong orange overtones with areas of alloy present at the left side of the portrait and also in dots along the obverse rims. A vibrant and important early Type Three coin.(Registry values: N4719)Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 26B9, PCGS# 8991, GSID# 9932)
Metal: 90% Gold, 10% Copper
