    Description

    1881 Liberty Twenty, XF45
    Low Mintage and Low Survival

1881 $20 XF45 PCGS Secure. The surviving population of this low-mintage issue is unknown but certainly small, given the original production of just 2,199 coins. An additional 61 proof double eagles were coined at Philadelphia during the year. This lovely specimen has reflective fields, and none of the myriad marks are singularly noticeable. Both sides have sharp design elements with slight wear. In fact, its overall appearance seems to be finer than the grade assigned, with the numeric assessment limited by the surface marks. This highly attractive example is destined to become part of an advanced collection of Liberty double eagles. Population: 4 in 45, 16 finer (2/11).(Registry values: N4719) (NGC ID# 26BC, PCGS# 8994)
