Description

Sharp MS62 1881-S Double Eagle

1881-S $20 MS62 PCGS. Although the yellow-gold surfaces of this piece show some light field chatter, there is also considerable prooflikeness apparent on both sides, apparently a fresh strike--and a sharp one, at that--from new dies front and back. Like so many Type Three double eagles, this issue is seldom seen in finer grades: NGC and PCGS combined have certified less than two dozen higher (8/08).(Registry values: N2998)
