    1881-S Liberty Double Eagle, MS62
    Elusive Issue in Finer Grades

    1881-S $20 MS62 PCGS. Although the yellow-gold surfaces of this piece show some light field chatter, there is also considerable prooflikeness apparent on both sides, apparently a fresh strike--and a sharp one, at that--from new dies front and back. Like so many Type Three double eagles, this issue is seldom seen in finer grades. PCGS has graded 25 numerically finer examples (9/17).
