    Description

    1882 Double Eagle, AU Details
    One of 571 Business Strikes

1882 $20 -- Improperly Cleaned -- NGC Details. AU. The 1882, along with a handful of other Philadelphia dates in its decade, is noteworthy for its token mintage of double eagle business strikes that made Carson City seem busy that year by comparison. In the case of the 1882, just 571 examples were made for circulation, and any example is a popular rarity. Though this pale yellow-gold piece plainly has been cleaned, glimmers of reflectivity remain in the protected areas. Lightly worn with scattered abrasions and a few deeper marks visible in the right obverse field. A few cloudy areas and copper spots are noted at the bottom of the reverse.
