    1882-CC Double Eagle, MS62
Only Two Finer Coins at PCGS

1882-CC $20 MS62 PCGS. Variety 1-B. No double eagles were coined at the Carson City Mint in 1880 and 1881, but coinage resumed in 1882 with a mintage of 39,140 pieces. The 1882-CC is one of the more available issues from this decade, with a surviving population of 800-900 pieces in all grades. Mint State examples are quite rare, however, as most of the coins circulated extensively at the time of issue.
The present coin is an impressive MS62 specimen, with sharply detailed design elements, including full star radials and fine definition on Liberty's hair. The pleasing orange-gold surfaces retain much of their original mint luster and show a moderate number of abrasions for the grade. Population: 17 in 62, 2 finer (11/11).(Registry values: N4719) (NGC ID# 26BF, PCGS# 8997)
