Description

1883-CC Double Eagle, MS62+
Lustrous and Fully Struck

1883-CC $20 MS62+ PCGS. CAC. Variety 1-B. This is a much scarcer variety that is characterized by the mintmark positioned approximately between the Y and D of TWENTY DOLLARS and diagonal die lines in the shield on the reverse, and a prominent die line between star 13 and the rim on the obverse. While this CC twenty is known for soft definition, especially on Liberty's hair, that is not the case with this piece where the hair and star radials are sharply rendered. As one would expect, the mint luster is thick and frosted. This reddish-gold example has a few grade-limiting marks, but the overall eye appeal is significant on this popular Carson City double eagle. Population: 23 in 62 (1 in 62+), 4 finer. CAC: 3 in 62, 1 finer (8/17).(Registry values: N4719)
