1884-CC Double Eagle, AU55
1884-CC $20 AU55 NGC. According to official records 81,139
double eagles were produced at the Carson City Mint in 1884. Doug
Winter believes 1,250-1,500 coins survive today in all grades, with
250-350 examples in AU. Only one die variety is known for the date.
The present coin is lightly worn on all surfaces and retains much
of its original mint luster. The surfaces show numerous minor
handling marks, primarily on the obverse. The surfaces are a
pleasing greenish-gold, with hints of peach around the
