Description

1885-S Double Eagle, MS64
Olive-Gold Luster

1885-S $20 MS64 PCGS. The mintage of 683,500 pieces from the 1885-S double eagle issue was a sharp drop off of around 230,000 pieces from the 1884-S mintage. The piece is well-struck with notable sharpness within the hair. There are some minor abrasions that are not egregious to the appeal, while some reed marks are present on Liberty's portrait. The availability of Choice Uncirculated examples is decent with over 100 seen by PCGS alone, but the date is exceptionally rare finer with just three reported by both PCGS and NGC combined (4/26).
