Description
Sharply Struck 1887-S Select Twenty Dollar
1887-S $20 MS63 NGC. This low mintage issue (283,000 pieces) can be readily located in the upper circulated and lower-end Mint State grades. Select examples are quite scarce, and higher grade pieces are extremely rare.A well executed strike delivers sharp definition to the design elements, indeed, sharper than usually seen for the issue. Specifically, most of the star centers and the date digits, areas of typical weakness, are strong on this particular specimen. Variegated apricot-gold and mint-green patina resides on the lustrous surfaces. Scattered light marks define the grade. Census: 21 in 63, 0 finer (3/09).
