Description

Impressive Near-Gem 1887-S Twenty

1887-S $20 MS64 PCGS. Easily among the best-preserved examples of the 1887-S double eagle issue, a relative lightweight in mintage compared to its San Francisco peers at just 283,000 pieces struck. The design definition on this near-Gem is remarkable: Liberty's hair is sharp, the centers of the stars are crisp, and even the fine details of the eagle are well-represented. Rich orange-gold luster, satiny but impressive, takes on blue-violet overtones through much of the fields. Minimally marked overall, with only a small abrasion at Liberty's neck warranting individual mention. Housed in a green label holder. PCGS has certified just four MS64 examples of this issue and only one finer (8/10).
