    1888-S Double Eagle, MS64+
    The Finest PCGS has Certified

    1888-S $20 MS64+ PCGS. CAC. A mintage figure of 859,600 double eagles at San Francisco in 1889 suggests a common date coin that is available in nearly any desired grade. However, this issue is an important condition rarity above MS63, and the present MS64+ PCGS example is the finest submission ever sent to that grading service. They have graded 58 examples in MS64, and none of the other 57 are designated as Plus quality coins.

    This frosty near-Gem displays brilliant yellow-gold surfaces with subtle splashes of copper toning on the reverse. The surfaces are pristine, with a few minuscule marks to prevent a higher grade. Population: 58 in 64 (1 in 64+), 0 finer (3/15).(Registry values: N4719)
