Description

1889 Twenty Dollar, MS62+
Sharply Struck, Low-Mintage Issue

1889 $20 MS62+ PCGS. CAC. The 1889 double eagle is a product of an era when the Philadelphia Mint sharply reduced its double eagle mintages in hopes of spurring circulation of lower-denomination gold. Only 44,070 circulation strikes were produced, and most found today are basal Mint State at best. In contrast, the gleaming golden-orange surfaces of this attractive and Plus-graded 1889 twenty will make an astute acquisition by a fortunate collector. The surfaces are far nicer than usually seen, showing a few minor ticks and scuffs but abundant luster over sharply struck surfaces. PCGS Population: 8 in 62+, 40 finer. CAC: 27 in 62, 4 finer (10/24).
