1889 $20 MS63 NGC. The 1889 double eagle gold from the Philadelphia Mint had a moderate mintage of 44,070 coins. In grades of About Uncirculated and within the lower grade ranges of Mint State, the issue can be easily located. At the Select Uncirculated grade level the 1889 twenty dollar gold becomes rare and much more difficult to locate. This lustrous specimen has medium yellow gold toning with some olive hues that highlight the attractiveness of this Liberty Head double eagle. While some bag marks are to be expected, this example has only small contact marks that do not distract from the lovely eye appeal. The strike is solid with good definition of design elements. This Select Uncirculated representative is sure to please the next owner.(Registry values: N4719)
