Description
1889 Double Eagle, MS63
Low Mintage, None Graded Finer
1889 $20 MS63 PCGS. Ex: Dallas Bank Collection. Mint
production was focused almost exclusively on cents, nickels, and
Morgan dollars in 1889. The final three dollar gold and three cent
nickel coins were struck in small quantities, token amount of
quarters and half dollars were produced, and only 44,070 double
eagles were manufactured. The 1889 twenty is more accessible than
its low mintage might suggest, but none survive higher than MS63.
Strongly defined rose and green-gold surfaces glisten with
luminous, frosty luster. Clash marks occur in the reverse fields,
and small ticks do not detract. We have little doubt this Select
double eagle will find a good home in a high-end gold collection.
