Description

1889 Twenty Dollar, MS63
Among the Finest Certified

1889 $20 MS63 PCGS Secure. The 1889 double eagle is rare in this grade and unknown numerically finer. The Philadelphia Mint struck only 44,070 double eagles in this year. Mint State survivors are occasionally available through MS62, but quality-conscious collectors will encounter a challenge in locating a piece as fine as the present. This piece is well-struck and frosty with wheat-gold mint luster. A few daubs of struck-in die grease (mint made) are visible near star 6 on the obverse, serving as a useful pedigree marker for this high-end 1889 double eagle. Population: 33 in 63 (1 in 63+), 0 finer (11/18).(Registry values: N4719)

Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 2695, PCGS# 9010, Greysheet# 9824)
