Description

1889-CC Double Eagle, AU55
Accessible Carson City Twenty

1889-CC $20 AU55 PCGS. Winter 1-A. Remarkably. one die pair produced the entire 30,945-piece 1889-CC double eagle mintage. Although the Carson City Mint produced no double eagles from 1886 to 1888, the 1889-CC was a generous output in the midst during resumption of coining operations at the Nevada facility. This minimally abraded Choice About Uncirculated example retains substantial mint luster and shows only nominal high-point wear. Some short, pesky grease marks are struck-in along the left reverse border and at Liberty's profile.(Registry values: N1793)
