Description

1889-S Double Eagle, MS64+
Exceptional, Conditionally Rare Example

1889-S $20 MS64+ NGC. CAC. The recently-discovered Saddle Ridge Hoard, an amazing group of coins that received widespread coverage in the national media, produced around 300 examples of this San Francisco date. Approximately 225 of those coins graded either MS62 or MS63, while just 31 were rated at MS64. Five pieces graded out at MS65.

Outstanding luster quality and razor-sharp strike definition are the most noteworthy attributes of this visually exceptional near-Gem (which is not pedigreed to the Saddle Ridge Hoard). Light honey-gold toning and exceptionally clean surfaces also contribute to the overall desirability of this conditionally rare double eagle. Census: 7 in 64+ (1 in 64+ ), 3 finer (10/14).(Registry values: N7079)
