Description
1890-S Double Eagle, MS64+
Notable Condition Rarity
1890-S $20 MS64+ NGC. CAC. This San Francisco issue is
virtually unavailable in full Gem condition, making high-end
near-Gem coins always in strong demand. This lustrous and Choice
example is brilliant and virtually unmarked. The lightly frosted
fields emit bold cartwheel luster, white the strike is absolutely
full. All of Liberty's hair strands and curls are fully brought up.
The eagle is bold from feathers to fletchings.A "condition rarity" of the highest order, it is likely no more than a dozen or so finer coins exist of this surprisingly challenging S-mint date. Census: 12 in 64 (5 in 64+), 2 finer (7/14).(Registry values: N7079)
Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 26BZ, PCGS# 9015, Greysheet# 9948)
Weight: 33.44 grams
Metal: 90% Gold, 10% Copper
