Description

1890-S Double Eagle, MS64
Ex: Saddle Ridge Hoard

1890-S $20 Saddle Ridge Hoard MS64 PCGS. A well struck and flashy sun-gold near-Gem that boasts smooth fields and a precise strike. The cheek exhibits minor contact. The Saddle Ridge Hoard was discovered in early 2013 buried in eight rusted tin cans on a California ranch, and marketed as "the greatest buried treasure find in U.S. history." The 1890-S was an important conditional rarity at the MS64 level prior to encapsulation of the holding. The hoard contained 10 examples as MS64, another 10 as MS64+, and 14 in higher grades. Included with the lot is a wooden gray Saddle Ridge box and a booklet entitled The Saddle Ridge Hoard Treasure.
