1890-S Double Eagle, MS64
Ex: Saddle Ridge Hoard
1890-S $20 Saddle Ridge Hoard MS64 PCGS. A well struck and
flashy sun-gold near-Gem that boasts smooth fields and a precise
strike. The cheek exhibits minor contact. The Saddle Ridge Hoard
was discovered in early 2013 buried in eight rusted tin cans on a
California ranch, and marketed as "the greatest buried treasure
find in U.S. history." The 1890-S was an important conditional
rarity at the MS64 level prior to encapsulation of the holding. The
hoard contained 10 examples as MS64, another 10 as MS64+, and 14 in
higher grades. Included with the lot is a wooden gray Saddle Ridge
box and a booklet entitled The Saddle Ridge Hoard Treasure.Coin Index Numbers: (Variety PCGS# 109015, Base PCGS# 9015)

Metal: 90% Gold, 10% Copper
