Description
1891 Double Eagle, Appealing AU50
Mintage of 1,390 Strikes for Circulation
1891 $20 AU50 ANACS. Struck in the amount of only 1,390
pieces for circulation, the 1891 double eagle is a issue that is
nonetheless somewhat underrated in comparison to the other, more
well-known low-mintage series issues dating from the 1880s -- the
1885 and 1886 at 751 and 1,000 business strikes, the 1882 at 571
pieces. This is a nice, attractive, well-struck example of the
1891, showing much mirrored semiprooflike texture underlying and
contrasting with light chatter in the fields on each side. No
singular marks appear on either side. This piece offers great eye
appeal for the assigned grade.(Registry values: N4719)Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 26C2, PCGS# 9016, Greysheet# 9826)
