Description
1891-CC Double Eagle, AU58 CAC
Key Type Three Issue
1891-CC $20 AU58 NGC. CAC. Winter 1-A. The 1891-CC is the
most common Carson City issues for the half eagle and eagle
denominations. It is a completely different story for the double
eagle, since the 1891-CC is the rarest twenty dollar issue from the
facility aside from the early 1870-CC through 1872-CC emissions. It
is unclear why only 5,000 1891-CC twenties were struck, but few
were saved for numismatic purposes until decades into the 20th
century. This is a pleasing Borderline Uncirculated example without
consequential contact. Luster is plentiful, and the strike is crisp
except on the first three obverse stars.(Registry values: N2998)Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 26C3, PCGS# 9017, Greysheet# 9949)
Weight: 33.44 grams
