1891-CC $20 MS60 NGC. "Unlike the Carson City half eagles and eagles of this date, the 1891-CC double eagle is a rare, low mintage issue. In fact, its original production of just 5,000 pieces is the second lowest for any Carson City double eagle, trailing only the 1870-CC." Thus Doug Winter describes the appeal of this issue in his Gold Coins of the Carson City Mint. Offered here is an unworn survivor with strong luster and pleasing yellow-orange color. Though the coin comes by its MS60 designation honestly, with a pair of significant scrapes on Liberty's cheek and abrasions scattered elsewhere, it retains considerable eye appeal and importance.
